MOBY DICK Chapters 9 & 10

BEFORE MOBY DICK ATTACKED

CHAPTER 9

This chapter is about a boat named Rachel and when she meets the protagonists. Ahab asks one of his sailors if he has seen a great white whale. The Rachel's captain asks Ahab if he wants to help his son find his boat for two days in exchange for a few coins, but Ahab rejects the offer. Finally, they find Moby Dick at sea and they get very excited.

CHAPTER 10

In this chapter, the Pequod starts to follow the whale. Moby dick is very huge, and he opens his mouth. Moby Dick has broken pieces of harpoons in his back, and then he disappears. There are several birds around the boat, and they think that the birds are a bad signal. Then Moby Dick appears again and Ahab commands, “return the boat.” They raise a harpoon, but Moby Dick is too quick and puts the entire end of the boat in his mouth. Ahab takes the huge teeth between his hands and tries to pull it out of the boat with all his strength, but the boat breaks into two. Ahab falls into the sea as Moby Dick is slowly approaching the boat, but they manage to
scare him. Nobody dies, but the whale escapes.
